Evaporation – Milk!

In my show the Evaporation gimmick that I use in a milk bottle. Really it’s a Sunny D bottle that has a milk label that I printed out on it. Recently while I was performing in Wyoming I found this milk bottle:

This is my dream bottle for a milk bottle for my Evaporation trick. The only problem is that it’s a unicorn. What makes this bottle perfect for milk is that it’s smooth, which makes it easy to clean and it’s clear, so the liquid is very visible. Unfortunately I’ve spend too much time trying to track down more of these bottles and all the ones I can find are frosted and not clear. With a frosted bottle it’s hard to see the liquid inside.

Normally milk is in a frosted or opaque bottle as light isn’t good for milk. That convinces me that these were an error at the place that makes the bottles. Unfortunately I won’t be able to offer these for sale to magicians as there’s only two and I’m going to be using them. However if you want my standard Evaporation that’s gimmicked for milk, shoot me a note and I can make you one.

Evaporation + FREE Out For Beers

One of my favorite gimmicks and one that I use in almost all of my stage shows is Evaporation!  This is a way to make liquid vanish from a single serve bottle of Sunny D (orange juice).  The “effect” is similar to a Magic Milk Pitcher, however the method is very different.

Using Evaporation with a Puppet

Recently in a Facebook group someone was asking about a way to make it look like their puppet was drinking. My Evaporation prop was mentioned and I immediately had some people ask me how to use the prop with one hand.

It’s not hard, here’s how:

Using Time Wisely

When I’m on the road, I try to find projects to work on. Things that free up my time when I’m back home. A couple of weeks ago while I was on the road I was working on making my Evaporation Trick.

I found 60 of the the bottles at a store:

In my hotel room I did all of the bottle prep:

When I’m home I’ll put the gimmicks into the bottles and they’ll be ready to ship out to Murphy’s Magic Supply, then to magic dealers around the world!

Doing the bottle prep saves me a lot of time when I’m home, time I could be spending with my family. Look for ways you can use your time on the road wisely, like working on promo or whatever to free up your time when you’re home.

I frequently get asked why the standard Evaporation gimmick is Orange SunnyD. There are several reasons why this is the main gimmicked bottle. One of these reasons is visibility.

For example if you used milk in the classic Magic Milk Pitcher the white liquid would virtually disappear if you were performing against a white background. You will find white backgrounds in places like:

School Gyms: Very frequently when doing school assemblies you will have a white or light gray gym wall behind you.

Theaters: I’ve performed at many performance venues in variety shows where my show took place in front of a giant white movies screen that another act was using.

Outdoor Shows: When performing at a fair or festival usually your stage will have a canopy with a walled side behind you. The majority of these that I have encountered are white.

By using a juice that is bright colored and not a color that typically appears as the main color of a backdrop you are increasing visibility for the trick. I’m sure at some point I’ve done a show in front of a bright orange background, but those are few and far between. Of course to solve this problem 100% of the time you could simply order two Evaporation gimmicks, one in orange and one in red.

The bottle for this has an additional gimmick to allow you to change the pour angle a little bit. I’m testing the Gatorade bottle in my show right now to make sure there are any unforeseen issues with the bottle. Hopefully I will have this available by the end of Stummer as an standard item.

If you buy an unauthorized copy The only thing I can do is ask you to return it to whoever you bought it from and ask for a full refund.
